Seeing Jesus in Everything

"Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials,knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." (James 1:2-3)

How is it possible to "consider it all joy" in the midst of heartache, pain, discouragement and uncertainty? On our own, this is literally impossible. But the comforting truth is that we are not alone...ever, and He can do what we cannot. In the midst of the trauma and chaos of a sudden diagnosis of aggressive cancer this week, our beloved sister Kim and her husband Peter are turning their eyes upon Jesus and receiving all they need. Praise the Lord, for His lovingkindness is everlasting!

First-Aid and CPR Course - Sat. Nov. 19, 10-1pm

Dear Rock Family,

We will be holding a first aid/ CPR course on Saturday November 19th from 10-1pm in the main chapel. The cost for the course is $25, money will be collected on the day of the course, cash or cheque. Babysitting will be provided. If you would like to participate please email Anita (anitaparsonsko@yahoo.ca) by November 13th. These life-saving skills have already proved helpful in emergency situations for several church members and is highly encouraged for everyone, but especially those who are frequently in the care of young children, the elderly, and those with health conditions.

Please also note that we'll be continuing to collect non-perishable food items for the Vaughan Food Bank until November 20th. The collection bins are located at the entrance to the main chapel. Please place multiple items in a tied plastic bag.

One boy's lunch was only enough to feed himself and maybe a couple of friends, but when placed in the hands of the Lord, could feed thousands of hungry souls. Let us turn our focus away from our lack and insufficiency to Jesus' limitless power to comfort the hurting, heal the sick, and bring life from death. That which is too much for you is not too much for Him. Join us in his throne room of grace this coming Friday October 28 at 8pm to seek His face and lay our requests at his feet.

Following versus Learning

"Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. If any one imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know. But if one loves God, one is known by him." ( 1 Cor 8:1b-3)

We have a tendency to deify or idolize knowledge...as though the more we know about Him, the more we will become like Him. But the truth is that we live in a generation of the most knowledge and the least power. Why? Because knowledge about Him isn't what gives us power...it's Jesus Himself, living and active as we love Him and know Him personally. When Peter and John heard that Jesus was alive, they ran to Him...all past failures and doubts were cast aside as they ran to meet the One whom they loved. Let us run to Jesus today and enjoy His fellowship and love...for it is only He who can turn the cowering, uneducated man into an effective witness of His redeeming power. As Pastor Sung said on Sunday, character is imparted by following Jesus, not learning about Him. Amen.

The miracle of intercessory prayer

Rom 1:14 (KJV) — I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise.

The Apostle Paul felt indebted to all men, regardless of who they were, because of the greatness of love that he had received from the Lord. No matter who they were, wise or unwise, he felt compelled to share the love of Christ with them. Is this your attitude towards others? Do you feel indebted to them or do you feel like they owe you something? If you are struggling with feelings of resentment or unforgiveness towards somebody, try praying for them by faith, and watch how the Lord fills your heart with love and tenderness that could only come straight from His heart. Amen.

The light of the world - in Japan

The Great East Japan Earthquake, was caused by a 9.0-magnitude undersea megathrust earthquake off the coast of Japan that occurred on Friday, March 11, 2011. The earthquake triggered extremely destructive tsunami waves of up to 124 ft that struck Japan minutes after the quake.

Christianity represents less than 1 percent of the population and the video below reveals His remnant in Japan.

A member of a local church said with an expression of shame, "We did nothing for those who were living right next to the church." His repentance moved me and made me think that if I had lost everything... my home, my job, my loved ones and all my possessions, what would I regret? What is my ministry as a Christian? But Jesus commands each one of us to, "love one another." John 15:17

The End of the Piggyback Era

"As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him." (1 John 2:27)

One great temptation that exists when gifted with an inspiring teacher and strong spiritual role model is spiritual "piggybacking"...relying so heavily on your leader's spiritual insights to inspire you, that you stop seeking to hear and relate to the Lord on your own two feet. While a pastor's insights into the Word help us to draw nearer to the Lord, they are never meant to replace a personal relationship between you and God where you can hear from Him directly and personally.

We, the flock, also have God's anointing on our lives. Rather than seeking week after week to be inspired, let us seek to be the inspirers for others.

A Tender Heart

2Chr 34:27 "...because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before God when you heard His words."

As we learned last Sunday, what truly set King Josiah apart from all the kings that came before him and after him was his tender heart. He didn't just hear God's word, but he responded by repenting on behalf of himself and his people, tearing down the high places, and re-instituting proper worship at the real temple in Jerusalem. How about us? If we don't make that conscious choice to continually submit our inner attitudes and behavior to the Lord's revealed will in our lives, we will remain forever babes in Christ, and useless to the kingdom of God. Are other people noticing God in our life more and more? If not, we are just fooling ourselves. As Oswald challenges us today, let us put God first literally, not just in theory. Amen.

Springing Forward

"...forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 3: 13,14)

How easy it is for us to look upon our failures and mistakes of the past and become discouraged and hopeless....but just as our Lord used a small boy's lunch to feed over 5000 people (Mark 6) , He is willing and able to take whatever little we have, and transform it into enough to feed many hungry souls. As this long, cold winter draws to a close, let us look forward to a new opportunity to step out in faith and offer the Lord whatever meager lunch we have and let Him use it to feed many. On that note, there is much opportunity to serve during the March in Motion Children's camp in the upcoming week. How appropriate that this coming Sunday March 13, 2011 is also the day to spring our clocks forward one hour to give us that extra hour of sunshine in the evening. As is our tradition at the Rock, we will be changing our clocks forward AFTER our Sunday morning service so that we will begin at 11:10 a.m., before changing your clocks or 12:10 p.m. if you insist on changing your clocks beforehand! Let us spring forward with joy, hope, and a willingness to offer to the Lord whatever we have. God Bless You!

Small Things with Great Love

The night before Jesus knew he was going to suffer and die on the cross, He knelt down and washed his disciples' feet. Nobody told him to do it, He just wanted to show them His love. What a simple gesture, yet this one act of kindness changed their lives forever. What small thing can we do today? It doesn't have to be anything big...just big in love. Let us commit ourselves to the small things and let the Lord turn them into something great. Amen.

Consider it all joy

Can you imagine how much we could change the course of our lives if we took these words to heart and truly began to consider our trials "all joy"? In Mark 5 When Jairus' servants brought the news that his worst fear had come to pass, his sick daughter had died, Jesus turned to Him in the midst of his deepest pain and despair and said, "Do not be afraid any longer, only believe." (Mark 5:36) Often times the Lord needs to use trials to bring us to that point of utter desperation to realize that He has always been there and He has every intention of bringing life where you can only see death. When Jesus took that child's hand and brought her back to life, you can be sure there wasn't a single father in all the land that was filled with more joy than Jairus. Let us stop being afraid and believe...for surely the trials that we are now facing are only setting us up for joy immeasurable that He is preparing for us. Amen.

Introducing WOTR Prayer Evenings: The Gathering

Dear Women of the Rock,

Join us on the last Friday of every month as we gather together in our homes to pray for one another, our families, and our church. As women in Christ, it is our overwhelming purpose to love...love the Lord, love our families, and love our church...yet when we try to live up to this great calling in our own strength, we so often fall short. Let us take our Lord's advice and gather together regularly to humble ourselves before Him and allow Him to fill us with Himself and give us the power to accomplish his purpose in us.

Getting off the Stool

"I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe..."(Ephesians 1: 18,19)

What has you on that stool? Insecurity about your abilities or inabilties? Fear of failure, suffering, or pain? Our great calling for today is to believe our Lord when He tells us that He has given us great power...power to accomplish and succeed in all that He has called us to today. Whomever He's calling you to serve, whomever He's telling you to forgive, whatever task, both big or little that He's asking you to do, believe that His power is in you to do it and step off that stool by faith. Amen.

Seeing Jesus Everywhere

Truly, our God is everywhere, and when we see Him wherever we are, regardless of the circumstances, there is peace, joy, hope and liberty. During yesterday's Sunday message, Pastor Sung shared the following video with the congregation. May it bless your heart as you witness the wonder and beauty of His Spirit in the mouth of a child.

"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." (1 Cr 3:17)

"And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:28)

This past Sunday Pastor Sung reminded us that life does not happen "to" us, it happens "for" us. Whenever displeasing circumstances, relationships, and trials come into our lives and cramp our style, we have a natural tendency to see these challenges as burdens, and we ask ourselves, "Why is this happening to me?"

The truth is that God brings that strained marriage, strong-willed child, financial trouble, and even internal battles of heart and mind into our lives to push us to the fulfillment of the purpose for which we were called. Like a dog that chases you down the street and forces you to run faster and longer than you ever thought possible, so too are these seemingly difficult challenges pushing us to heights of character we thought unimaginable for us to attain.

Let us thank and praise our gracious and loving Father for making sure that we will become all that we were meant to be. Amen.

The Mystery of the Gospel

"...to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory."

How is it possible for God, who is infinite and holy, to live inside us fallen, sinful people? This has been such a difficult concept for me to grasp that even though I say I believe with my mouth, in my daily life I still find myself often relying on myself, as if He were not there to lead me. But Scripture says that He does live inside of us and somehow, someway when we turn our hearts and minds to Him He speaks to our hearts and reveals Himself to us. Yes, it's a mystery, but the truth, nevertheless. Let us abandon ourselves recklessly to His Spirit, and allow Him to lead us for He can and He will. Amen.

A couple of weeks ago, just before Christmas several families hung around after church on Sunday to enjoy an afternoon of tobogganing down our famous Rock hill behind the little chapel. It was a magical time of fellowship and fun as all the parents took turns going down the hill, helping the little ones back to the top, and making sure that everyone was safe. Kids were sharing their sled with each other and soon all the parents were going down the hill with other people's kids. We had an absolute blast! Without a word, we could feel the presence of something magical...love was definitely in the air!

As we enter a new year, may we take every opportunity to gather together, make memories together, and "stimulate one another to love and good deeds."

By the way, if you wake up on Sunday morning and there is snow on the ground, throw your toboggans and snow gear in the back of the car and join us for some great times after service!

"O taste and see that the Lord is good! How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him." (Psalm 34:8)

Last night during Wednesday bible study, we learned that when the Israelites were given instructions on who was to go out to battle, there were four groups of people who were exempt and allowed to stay home: Those who had just built a house, those who had just planted a vineyard, those who were engaged to be married, and those who were afraid. (Deut 20:5-8)Why were these four groups of people exempt? Because the Lord desires for His people to enjoy of his goodness and be secure in His love before going out to battle the enemy.

Sometimes we Christians get so caught up in all the things we think the Lord requires of us, when in reality, all He wants is for us to enjoy His presence, experience His blessings, and become true worshippers of the Lord from the heart. In the battle of Jericho, it was the Levites, the worshippers, that led the way for the people. If you have not tasted of the Lord's goodness, and are not enjoying His presence today, then stop all else and turn humbly to Him now and ask Him to help you just love and enjoy Him today. Our God is not a hard taskmaster, He is a loving Heavenly Father who desires above all else that we enjoy and experience His love. Amen.

Jacob I loved but Esau I hated

"Just as it is written, 'JACOB I LOVED, BUT ESAU I HATED." (Romans 9:13)

What was it about Jacob that God loved and why was Esau rejected? Scripture says that Esau "despised his birthright" and gave it up for a bowl of stew (Ge 25:34). He did not see value in the blessing and favor of the Lord upon his life and was content to make his own way in the world, independent from God. Jacob, on the other hand, as deceitful and selfish as he was, still saw value in the blessing of the Lord and desired a relationship with the Lord. This is the heart of God towards us. He sees past all of our failures and shortcomings to the heart that simply acknowledges Him and desires a relationship with Him. Whether we wrestle with Him in our doubts and fears, or we embrace Him in our gratitude and worship, let us reach out and commune with our Heavenly Father. His love for us is so exceedingly great that his sentiment towards those who reject Him appears as hate in comparison.

How God Restores our Soul

I bet the last thing Elijah felt like doing as he sank into a depression( 1 Kgs 19) was to go and minister to somebody else. He felt like his life had no purpose and that all he had worked so hard for didn't make any difference. Even still, the Lord in his love and wisdom, sent Elijah to Elisha because he knew that it was in serving and caring for someone else, that his own soul would be restored. Who is your Elisha? Let us lay aside our feelings and be willing to reach out to that other soul by faith. You will find that in so doing, the Lord will meet you there, and not only give you the ability to be a blessing to someone else, but He will restore your soul in the process too. Amen.

Becoming a Witness

"Go home to your people and report to them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you." (Mark 5:19)

These words were not spoken to the disciples (yet), to the religious leaders, or even to the multitudes of well-meaning followers who were being healed by Jesus. They were spoken by Jesus to the man he rescued from being tormented by an entire legion of demons. This man had truly experienced the redeeming power of God and he was living proof that Jesus really saves. We need to be brought down in order to be lifted up. If you are being brought down, rest in the comfort of knowing that He will lift you up and make you into the witness He wants you to be. It's who you are that's important to God, not what you're doing. Amen.

Pastor Gets the Boot!

Even though the rain brought us indoors for the Rock's annual picnic and baptism, that didn't stop the Son from shining down on our "Luau in the Son". Congratulations to Erin Leung, Benita Pak, and Jean Lee for their baptisms and thank you to everyone for getting into the Hawaiian spirit...special mention goes to Albert Yi for bearing it all to win the 'best costume' prize.(He's the one playing musical chairs with the grass skirt and fake abs pasted to his chest!) Praise the Lord for granting us such a wonderful day of fellowship and fun!

Dependence Pleases the Lord

"Give us this day our daily bread." (Matthew 6:11)

Yesterday during the Sunday message we learned that dependence pleases God because it causes us to stay humble and grateful. But if you had asked Elijah whether or not he liked watching his precious Brook Cherith dry up or if he enjoyed the long, hot journey to enemy territory where he was instructed to find somebody even poorer than him to give him food, I doubt he would have said,"Oh, yes. This is awesome!" But during this time of utter poverty, the Lord taught Him to trust and gave him the opportunity to experience His miraculous provision. What's more, in the process of depending on the Lord, God used Elijah to save the poor widow, and He used the widow to save Elijah.

Did you wake up this morning feeling poor? Poor in patience, poor in wisdom, poor in finances, poor in love? Consider the pleasure it will bring to your Master if you'll just turn to Him and ask for your daily bread. If it comes from Him and not by your own hand, you will find that He feeds more than just you in the process. "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." (Matt 5:3)

Following the Spirit in the Dominican Republic

Hello from Bill and Eugene from the Dominican!

We miss home very much, but are excited to be here to see the Lord work in the communities of the Haitian people in the Dominican and to experience Him working in our lives. The need is great here and the Lord has opened my eyes to how most of the world lives... in poverty. But it's amazing to see the peace and joy in their lives.

Yesterday was the first day of the pastors' conference (an amazing story within itself!). Haitians from all over the Dominican, and some who even travelled from Haiti, gathered together in Cangrejo inside a Haitian church here in the DR, to receive discipleship training from our brothers from Downline Ministries (from Tennessee) while our friend, Roosevelt translated into their language, Creole. I have to say, the people are HUNGRY for the Word and teaching. We were inside their 'tin' church with no air conditioning, few of their fans were blowing, and the power had to be switched to a generator several times during the day. The temperature without humidity was 96F late in the day, so it was probably around 110F during the seminar. Regardless, they were sitting in their chairs dressed in shirts and ties, captivated by the Word of God, soaking in all the instruction they could on how to lead others to the Lord.

Anyways, I can speak forever, but today is another day (it's going to be hot)so we appreciate your prayers and hope to see you all soon.

Give God Space

"However, there shall be between you and it (the Ark of the Covenant) a distance of about 2,000 cubits (about half a mile)by measure. Do not come near it, that you may know the way by which you shall go, for you have not passed this way before." (Josh 3:4)

As the people of Israel travelled through the wildnerness, the Lord gave them specific instructions to travel about a half mile behind the ark of the covenant. Why did He do this? He was teaching them to give God some room to lead and direct them just a little further than their own eyes could see. He wanted them to learn to trust His guidance just beyond their own sight and own understanding. In the same way, the Lord is teaching us to give Him some space. We don't need to see everything and know the purpose behind all the He is allowing to happen today. Give him space, and just rest in knowing that He will lead you in the right way. Amen.

Praise the Lord for blessing us with a truly Spirit-filled 1st annual Rock run! From the perfect sunny but cool running conditions to cheering as we watched every last runner cross that finish line from age 6 to 50 plus, it was truly a wonderful, wonderful time of fellowship, encouragement, and blessing.

Memorial Service for Unsoo Lee

Dear Rock Family,

Let us come together this Friday July 30, 2010 at 7pm to mourn the loss and celebrate the life of our beloved sister, Unsoo Ryu Lee. As we well know, she loved our Lord and our Rock family so very much and her encouraging words and faithful prayers will be deeply missed by us all.

Service time tomorrow will be 7pm. With more than 500 guests expected to attend, Rock members are asked to park at the lower level of the land (gates will be open just south of Mounsey St.)or across the street at 300 Clarence St at the golf course turf centre just a few metres north of Mounsey St. on the west side of Clarence. Babysitting is available at the Big House, but with such a large number of guests expected, if possible, please try and arrange home child care.

Are you waiting for God or is He waiting for you?

"And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, that you may believe." (John 11:15)

Yesterday during Sunday's message we learned that Jesus had a good reason for "being late" after hearing of his friend, Lazarus' illness. Both of Lazarus' sisters, Mary and Martha said to the Lord, "If you had been here, my brother would not have died". Their faith was only "theological" and not yet living and relevant for their present pain. Yet, after Jesus explained to them, "I am the resurrection and the life" and raised their brother from the dead, their faith was unbound from theology to reality..from death to life.

We need these times of waiting on the Lord in our life so that He can bring us too from knowing about God, to really knowing and trusting in God.

If the Lord is taking you through a time of waiting right now, consider this; Is it that you are waiting for God or that He is waiting for you to come to the end of yourself and just trust in Him completely, no matter how things may appear?

It's Eighties Night at Happy Feet this Friday July 24 at 7:30 p.m. All are welcome, both couples and singles. And all skill-levels are welcome from beginner to advanced! This is a wonderful opportunity for you to come and get to know other members of the church and just have a wonderful time moving to the music! The first hour will be instructional time followed by open dance time for the second hour. This time we will be dancing to your favorite hits from the eighties.

There will be no babysitting provided. However, older, school-aged children are welcome to fellowship with one another outside of the main chapel. We will have balls, nets, and drinks set up outside for them to play sports and enjoy the great weather we've been having.

August Mission Trip to the Dominican Republic

Dear Rock Family,

Bill and Debbie Stephenson, two of our newest church members, have been actively involved over the last couple of years in reaching out to the Haitian refugees currently living in the Dominican Republic. These Haitian refugees are living in very impoverished conditions with very few resources available to them, including very little bible teaching and mentorship. Bill and Debbie have a vision to help equip the local Haitians to become more effective ministers. They are working in conjunction with another ministry called Downline Ministries to hold training sessions on discipleship.

The first of these training sessions will be taking place the week of August 16 to 22, at which time Bill and Debbie will be heading down to the Puerto Plata area of the Dominican. Bill and Debbie would love to take along anyone from the Rock who would be interested in joining them on this trip or future trips. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet and greet the people of the Dominican firsthand and see how we as a body can reach out and help our brothers and sisters in Christ. Ah, yes, those sacred vows. Do you remember those days of old when all that mattered was being together with your beloved? Was it not then that you were the happiest? Indeed, whether it be with our spouse or with our Lord, we will never be happier than when we can look at our beloved and say, "I don't need anything in life, as long as I have you."

Let us stop looking for what we can get from God and our loved ones, but desire rather just to love them and be with them. When it is Jesus Himself whom we desire, then He will bring wholeness and completeness to us. Don't let the thorns of this world choke out your first love.

"My beloved is mine and I am his..." (Song of Songs 2:16)

Healing Hands

We invite all in our body who are sick or in need of prayer to remain in the main chapel this coming Sunday June 20 right after service so that the elders of the church can pray for you. As Scripture says,"the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick." Come and receive restoration, healing, and forgiveness for your sins."

Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will Be Done

"Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." (Matt 6:10)

After living the first 40 years of his life as a prince of Egypt, Moses fled Egypt, wandered in the desert, and ended up settling in a place called Midian, living as a shepherd of sheep. This is a true "riches to rags" story, going from the highest social rank, to the lowliest of the low. Nevertheless, scripture says that "Moses was content to live with the man (Reuel, priest of Midian), and he gave Zipporah his daughter to Moses." (Exodus 2:21)

How was it that Moses was able to find contentment after descending from the highest living standard to the lowest? We can get a glimpse into his heart when he names his firstborn son, "Gershom", meaning "stranger", because that was a reflection of what he was...a stranger in the land. Once we understand that we too are strangers on this earth and it is heaven that we are destined for, and heaven that we long for, we too will start taking a lot of things a lot less seriously and find ourselves content.

...and if heaven is what we long for, remember that God's kingdom is anywhere that God's will is being done. Every time we make that decision to let God's will reign in our hearts, we have just brought heaven to earth. May this be our prayer today..."Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." -Amen.

Just a reminder to all you closet-dancers out there that we will be holding our monthly Happy Feet Swing dancing night tonight, Friday June 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the main chapel. This is truly a blessed time of fellowship and a perfect way to get to know other members of the congregation.

Eject Self

Pastor Sung shared last Sunday about a famous American fighter pilot, Chuck Yeager, who just barely escaped death when he managed to eject himself from his fighter jet during a test run only seconds before it came crashing down onto the desert floor.

Do you ever felt like you are in a death spin? Is there a magic button that we can press to help us escape death and destruction? Yes, there is. It's called the "eject self" button. When we stop considering our own desires and seek after the Lord's, we can then begin understanding what a living, abiding, tangible relationship with Jesus is really about.

Sometimes it seems like the hardest thing in the world to just press that button...we don't want to deny ourselves. We want what we want, and that's it...but consider, it's the only way for you to stop the spinning and save you from crashing and burning. The choice is yours. Amen.

Do you see Him in the bushes?

Ex 3:2 - "And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed…4 So when the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, "Moses, Moses!" And he said, 'Here I am.'"

When God spoke to Moses, He chose to appear in a dry, thorny, desert bush. Why would He choose a bush over a majestic tree? He doesn't want us to look at the bush but rather the fire that is in the bush. We are surrrounded by bushes all around us...dry, prickly people that we think we have all figured out, but if we look a little closer, we'll see that Jesus is there, speaking to us through them. They might not even know it...they might not even be believers, but God uses them nevertheless to reach out to us and reveal Himself to us...but we must see Him there. What an exciting, joyful day awaits for those of us who open our eyes and see Him where we never noticed Him before! Amen.

Clean House or Full House?

"When the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and not finding any, it says, 'I will return to my house from which I came. And when it comes, it finds it swept and put in order. Then it goes and takes along seven others spirits more evil than itself, and they go in and live there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first." (Luke 11:24-26)

Did you ever notice how your home never looks better than when you are trying to sell it? I remember looking around our home when it was on the market a few years ago and sighing, thinking, "If only it could be this clean all the time!" The problem is, many of us have (or try to have) clean houses but they are empty ones. We focus so much on "cleaning up" the trials and hardships from our lives, but we do not substitute them with a genuine surrender to our Lord Jesus Christ.

As Pastor Sung put it yesterday, "Humility and contrition are the keys to open our eyes to the heart of God." Do you truly see yourself as unworthy before Him?..or are you still making your demands and holding on to your own expectations? God loves us more than we can even begin to imagine. He has a special and unique plan for our lives, but until we humble ourselves before Him, we will not be able to see, appreciate, or experience the fulness of His love and the fulfillment of His promises. God will only take us as far as we are willing to go with Him and not one inch further.

Let us let go of our demands and let Him do what He wants. If we refuse, and insist on only "cleaning up the mess", we will find that "our last state is worse than the first." If we welcome Him into our hearts and our homes, we will discover with surprised delight, that with or without deliverance from our present trials, He is enough. Amen.

Jelly Beans

"He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. So He said, "Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all." (Luke 21:2,3)

Today I told our preschool class about the widow who gave her last two coins to the Lord because she loved God more than anything else. I explained that she trusted that God would take care of her, even though she didn't seem to have anything left.

Then I gave each of these 2 and 3-year-olds two jelly beans each and told them they could choose how many jelly beans they wanted to give to God. Out of the nine kids in the class, three of them carefully selected one jelly bean and dropped it into the offering bag. Two of them smiled and dropped both their jelly beans into the bag without hesitation. The remaining four held on tightly to their jelly beans and could not let them go.

Little did they realize that only a few seconds later the kids who gave one jelly bean would be rewarded with three more and those who gave both jelly beans were rewarded with an entire handful. I smiled as I caught a glimpse of what God must see when He looks at us holding so tight to our jelly beans when He is ready and waiting to bless us with so much more.

God bless the children who gave all they had without a moment of hesitation. May we too be willing to give God everything without reserve.

How do you respond to CHANGE?

"Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling..." (Jude 24)

In tonight's Wednesday night bible study, Pastor Sung asked us all this question: "Why do people stumble and fall away from God?" The answer was that it happens as a result of some kind of change in our lives. Abraham, for example, left the promised land to go to Egypt due to a famine. Jacob left Bethel because Deborah, who served as a nanny to his infant son died. It could be financial change, changes in the family, changes in our health, but whatever type of change it is, our temptation is to react to these changes by leaving our "Bethels" (where God dwells) and trying to take matters into our own hands instead of simply trusting in the Lord.

Jude is reminding us here that God is able to keep us in any cirumstance. Our first response to changes in our lives should be to ask ourselves, "What was the last thing the Lord told me?" Then we must continue to do that which He has told us, regardless of the changes taking place around us. God is able to keep us from stumbling in any set of circumstances, regardless of how new and unfamiliar they might be. Let us not be so reactionary to life, but rather deliberately, steadfastly, choose to hear His voice and follow Him daily. Amen.

Next Vineyard Fellowship

We had a truly blessed first meeting for The Vineyard ministry. Our numbers were small, but our faith was great in taking a step to be open enough to share and to receive prayer. It was such a great time of comfort and encouragement that I hope those of you who were unable to attend our first meeting will join us for our next meeting on Saturday, May 15th at 10:00am downstairs in the main chapel. As a reminder, the Vineyard Ministry is a support and prayer gathering for women who are struggling to conceive and bear children. We will be learning how we can receive God's best for our lives as He uses our common struggle to build us up and draw us closer to Himself. Just a Vapor...

During yesterday's Sunday message, Pastor Sung shared with the congregation this department store commercial that really illustrates the fleeting nature of our lives and shows us what God must see when He looks at us. We get so caught up in 'our part of the commercial', but God sees it all in one glance. No matter who we are and how we choose to live our part of the commercial today, God will do exactly what He said He would, which is to save and redeem all who put their trust in Jesus. You may have given your life to Jesus and secured your eternal salvation...But whether you have joy along the way depends on you.

God is not looking for a reason to bless us. Let us stop "trying to get our act together" and just believe in Him. He has saved us, He has redeemed us, and He has destined us for the fulfillment of all our hopes and dreams. Our part is to just believe Him and obey Him. Let us not be so arrogant today as to think that we can alter the fulfillment of God's promises. Amen.

A diamond vs a cabbage

But Esau said, "I have plenty , my brother; let what you have be your own." (Genesis 33:9)

When Jacob meets his brother for the first time after cheating him out of his birthright and fleeing from him for many years, he presents his brother with a generous gift of livestock, which Esau initally refuses to accept. At first glance, it would appear that Esau, a type of the flesh, was a "good guy" and very gracious. We all have Esaus in our lives; those who are not believers, yet are so generous and kind, that we wonder what difference faith in Christ really makes when these Esaus seem at times to be so much more gracious and kind than some Christians that we know!

But as pastor Sung pointed out to us last Sunday, the difference between Esau and Jacob, or between the flesh and the spirit, is like the difference between a diamond and a cabbage. The diamond might look beautiful and valuable at first glance, but it contains no life. The cabbage, on the other hand, is a living organism that might not look like anything spectactular, but like all living things, it is growing.

Let us not be deceived by the sparkle of this world. Christ is the only source of life and without Him, you have no more life than an inanimate object. Praise God that we are alive in Christ Jesus!

"Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we shall be. We know that, when He appears, we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him just as He is." (1 John 3:2)

The Truth that Makes Us Free

Many of us are afraid to face the truth about ourselves. Like the alcoholic in pastor Sung's illustration yesterday, we project an image of ourselves to the world and convince ourselves that we are what we project. If everybody else thinks that I'm okay, then I must be okay, right? Wrong.

The truth hurts, but unless we know and face the truth about ourselves and others, we will never know true freedom. Let us take some time to look into the mirror of His Word and face the truth about ourselves. Are you self-indulgent? Lazy? Unkind? Rebellious? Confess your sin to the Lord and to one another and let his truth set you free. There isn't a sin in all the world that is not covered by his blood, if only we will admit it, confess it, and be willing to let it go. Amen.

Being the Right Ones

When Herb Brooks, the head coach for the US national men's hockey team, best known for leading his team to a gold-medal victory in the 1980 Winter Olympics, was selecting his players for the team, his assistant coach was surprised to find that he did not choose all the players with the best skills and ability. When questioned about this, Herb responded, "I'm not looking for the best players, I'm looking for the right ones."

Our Lord, also, is looking for "the right ones" to shower his blessings upon and use to expand His kingdom. But if being right is not found in talent, ability, or even strength of character, then where is it found?

It is found in simply receiving the love of our Lord. As pastor Sung reminded us during yesterday's message, the blessings of the Father are bestowed upon those who trust Him to bless them because they know that He loves them. Do you know that your Father loves you? Are you certain of this love, even in the face of today's difficulties and trials?

We will not be able to love and minister to others by girding up our loins and trying our best to serve the Lord in our own strength. No, the secret lies in the receiving of His love. When we are certain that He loves us and will bless us, then suddenly we will find that being patient with others, being able to endure difficult circumstances, and finding joy in the midst of suffering will be as natural as breathing. Let us trust in His love for us today, and proclaim like Joseph, "...you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.." (Ge 50:20) Amen.

Who would you rather be?

"But the man who was healed did not know who it was.." (John 5:13)

During this past Wednesday night bible study, pastor Sung compared two men in the bible who were both lame. The first was the paralytic man lying by the pool of Bethesda. After 38 years of being unable to walk, Jesus heals him, and returns strength into his legs so he is able to pick up his pallet and walk! But when the Jews asked him who it was that had healed him, the man did not know Jesus.

Contrast this, with Jacob, who after wrestling all night with the Lord, is struck in the hip and made lame for the rest of his life. Although God never heals his wounded hip, He uses this weakness to help Jacob depend on Him for the rest of His life. Before he died as an old man Scripture says, "By faith Jacob, as he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, and worshiped, leaning on the top of his staff." (Hebrews 11:21)

Who would you rather be? The one who was healed but did not know the Lord; or the wounded one who leaned on his staff and worshipped the Lord at the end of his life?

This does not mean that the Lord will not heal you from whatever troubles you today...but let us consider, is it the healing what we seek, or is it the Lord Himself? If it is the Lord Himself, let Him have his way with you today, with or without healing. Like Jacob, the wound itself could end up being the greatest blessing. Amen.

Introducing "The Vineyard" Gathering

"Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples." (Jn 15:8)

I have always loved spring because it reminds me of rebirth, renewal, and life. The past several years, however, have felt like a perpetual winter as I have struggled to conceive and have a child. The new "Vineyard" ministry is a support, prayer, and encouragement gathering for other women who are also experiencing the same struggle. Recently, the Lord has reached out and touched me with his love and assurance that He has a special plan for my life and has changed my focus from simply wanting a baby to letting God work in my life and character so that I can be pleasing to Him. My intention for this ministry is to glorify God by sharing with you my personal testimony and proclaiming all of God's promises and truth so that you may know that they are for you too. I would also like to make this an opportunity for prayer, for God hears our prayers and "the prayer of a righteous man (or woman!) can accomplish much" (James 5:16)

If you or somone you know could benefit from this ministry, I encourage you to join me on Saturday April 24 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon in the main chapel for a blessed time of fellowship and prayer. Let's Eat!

John 4:32, 32 - " I have food to eat that you do not know about...My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work."

The disciples were concerned about eating to meet their physical needs. Jesus cared more about 'eating' that which would nourish His spiritual needs..to accomplish the work of His father.

During yesterday's Sunday message, our brother Albert explained that often we do work that we think is for Jesus but we don't accomplish what He wants. We may be going through the motions of leading a bible study group, taking care of our children, and "being a good witness" at work, but God is saying, "No, that's not it." Those small group members, those children, those co-workers need more than just somebody who is "going through the motions". Motions will not satisfy their deep spiritual hunger.

So how can we nourish the souls of others? We can't tell a hurting soul that Jesus can heal them unless we have been that hurting soul that has been healed. If we want, like our Lord, to "accomplish His work", then like our Lord, we must submit to our Father's will for our lives and let Him have his way. If all we care about is that which will temporarily satisfy our physical hunger, like the disciples, we won't have anything but physical food to offer to those around us.

If we submit to the will of our Father today, even if it means suffering physical hunger, He will make us into nourishment to feed the souls of those around us. Let's eat!

A Blessed Easter Sunday

Praise God for blessing us with a glorious Easter Sunday. After recieving a precious word of hope about God's unfailing faithfulness, we were so humbled and grateful to enjoy the warmth of the sun shining down upon us, our children, and over 100 visitors who were able to partake in the fun of our annual Easter Egg Hunt. Thank you, Lord, for the hope that Easter brings. You are indeed risen from the dead and because of You we have life. Amen.

The Day After

"...Jesus came and stood in ther midst, and said to them, "Peace be with you..." (John 20:19)

Before our Lord breathed His final breath on that cross, He cried out, "It is finished." His disciples looked on, devastated, terrified, and confused. Their Lord and Master was dead and as far as they were concerned, it was finished...all their hopes and dreams were shattered and they had no idea what to do except hide together in fear of what might happen next. How amazing, extraordinary, miraculous and wholly unexpected it was when He appeared to them just three days later alive and well, speaking these words of comfort to them.

Today is the day after Easter, the day after we pondered our Lord's death and resurrection. As we begin a new day, a new week, let us consider our Lord's words. It is finished...not our hopes and dreams,but rather the power of sin to destroy us. Jesus conquered that enemy once and for all on that cross, and now,what the Lord finished is our beginning.

Doesn't seem that way to you? That's okay. As pastor Sung reminded us yesterday, there is always a gap between the receiving of a promise and the experiencing of it. If you are "living in the gap", live it with faith and confidence that the experience will come in due time. Ours is the life of freedom, victory, and the fulfillment of all our hopes and dreams. Let us take this victory from our Lord by faith and enjoy the peace our Lord offers to us today. "Peace be with you..." Amen.

Uncompromising Soldiers

Last night in our 'always blessed' Good Friday service, pastor Sung shared that in 1644, after successfully keeping out invaders for 1800 years, the Great Wall of China was breached because of one single gatekeeper who was bribed by the enemy. When one person compromised his soul for personal gain, the Great Wall was rendered useless and an entire country fell prey to their attackers. We'd like to think that we are not like that gatekeeper and that we would "never sell out" like that for a few measly dollars, but the truth is that the enemy gets us not by trying to break down the Great Wall of 'big ticket' items, but by finding the "crack" of little things. What is your crack? In what area of your life do you find yourself unwilling to absorb a personal cost for the sake of others? Is following Jesus getting in the way of your life plan? Thank God that Jesus did not consider Himself when he gave Himself on the cross.

The video below was shared during yesterday's message and shows us that we all, young or old, can be the uncompromising soldiers that we are called to be. It doesn't matter how weak our character and how much we have failed in the past. By making that choice to consider others over ourselves, the Lord Himself transforms immature children into brave soldiers that are ready to give it all for one another. Replace the final statement in the video with "We are followers of Jesus Christ", for this video is not a praise of one nation, but for all those who choose to pick up our cross and carry one another, even at the cost of our very lives.

"...I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus." (Phil 3:12)

Let us press on to become uncompromising soldiers. It is our calling and our destiny.

"But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed." (Isaiah 53:5)

Dear Friends and Family,

Praise God that by His stripes we are healed! There isn't a single pain, a single sorrow, a single sin in all the world that is not healed by the blood of our Lord shed on the cross. Let us receive and partake of this precious blood as we gather at the Lord's table in remembrance of Him. Please join us this Good Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the main chapel for our Good Friday Communion Service.

There will be no child care provided but we encourage all families to come together and share in the Lord's table together. Older children can sit with their parents in the main chapel while parents with young toddlers and infants can stay in the viewing room at the back of the chapel and still be able to participate in the service and partake in communion.

Prayer is the Essential Thing

Ja 5:16b - "The effectual prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much."

Jesus Himself spent more time praying than He did anything else during His earthly ministry. Of all the things the disciples could have asked Him to teach them, they asked Him, "Lord, teach us to pray." (Luke 11:1) The disciples saw that something supernatural, divine, and miraculous happened every time that Jesus prayed. Jesus knew that prayer was the essential thing of life.

Yesterday during the Sunday message, pastor Sung said that the only reason he is here in Canada is to pray. He said all his teaching, counselling, etc. is just an overflow of that one essential ministry. How completely opposite is this line of thinking than the rest of the world!

The essential thing today is not to try our best to get ahead and complete our task list. The essential thing is not even to be as loving, patient, and diligent as we can. The essential thing today is to pray..to humbly submit myself fully to the Father and allow His Spirit to tell me what to do, where to go, and who to lift up to the Father by faith. Let us take our Lord's example and spend more time on our knees than anywhere else. May we take hold of the essential thing...and watch as the Lord moves the mountains. Amen.

Life is Not a Game

Have you ever played this game, "Chutes and Ladders"? Every time I play with my kids I laugh inside because it reminds me of real life...just when you think you're way ahead, your man lands on a chute and down you go, back to the beginning of the game board...or, just when you think you've lost for sure, suddenly, you land on a ladder and you're winning the game.

I was convicted from last Sunday's message, however, that life is not a game. It's not about who gets to the top of the board the fastest and who can avoid the chutes and find the ladders of life. I was convicted that I have wasted many a day getting upset and bent out of shape because I or someone else in my life "made me land on a chute". No, life isn't about who gets to the top of the board fastest, but rather Who we knew and loved along the way. When we get to the end of our lives, may we be able to say triumphantly, " I knew Him and I loved Him", not, " I won the most points!" Amen.

Our resident swing-dancing instructor, Hannah Kim will be holding swing dancing lessons for all levels (beginners to advanced) followed by a grand open dance time for all couples, singles, and even kids to get down and boogy! You do not need to bring a partner, because we will be rotating. There will be no babysitting, but older kids are welcome to join us. Please see Hannah Kim after service this Sunday to register at the back of the chapel. This is a wonderful opportunity to fellowship with other members of our church and just have a great time! I can't guarantee you'll be able to dance like the video but you will leave with a smile.

Reporting for Duty....

Yesterday morning during our Sunday message, we learned that when we bow before the Lord in prayer, the attitude of our heart should be that of a soldier reporting for duty, seeking only will of His Commander. How different this is from our normal way of turning to God like spoiled children and only asking for things that will please ourselves!

Whatever it is that you desire so much for yourself today, surrender it to the Lord and trust that He knows best. What a sigh of relief you will breathe to know that desire is in the Lord's hands!

Let us bow before the Lord often today, seeking His will in whatever circumstances we face today. "Reporting for duty, sir! Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done...your wish is my command."

Springing forward this Sunday in more ways than one!

Dear Rock Family,

This upcoming Sunday March 14 we will be changing our clocks forward one hour AFTER our Sunday morning service. In other words, our worship service will begin at 11:10 a.m. WITHOUT changing our clocks. If you choose to change your clock forward before service, then we will begin at 12:10 p.m.

Also, with spring coming it is time to put on those dusty running shoes and workout clothes and start sweating off the winter flab. Crosstrainers will resume their after-service workouts this coming Sunday at 1:30 p.m. (2:30 p.m. if you have changed your clock already). Liz and John Christianson really know how to make you sweat and have fun at the same time! Bring a towel and a bottle of water and spring into workout season with us! See you all there...

Say "No" to self and "Yes" to Jesus everytime

William Borden (1887-1913)

Yesterday we learned during our Sunday message about an inspiring young missionary who gave up inheriting his family fortune, to follow his life's motto to say "No" to self and "Yes" to Jesus everytime. After first inspiring thousands of fellow students at Yale University to give their lives to the Lord and join him in weekly prayer and bible study, upon graduation, he left everything to sail to China to become a missionary to the muslims living there. During a stop-over in Egypt where he planned to hone his Arabic language skills before sailing for China, he fell ill and died at the age of 25. When word of his death reached America, every newspaper in the country retold his story, inspiring thousands of young people to become missionaries and complete the journey that young Bill Borden was never able to complete himself. The day before he died, in his journal in which he had already penned the words, "no reserve" and "no retreat", he added the words, "no regrets".

As I watched the Vancouver Olympics draw to an end yesterday and considered the legacy left behind by all the victorious athletes, it truly seemed to pale in comparison to the legacy of this young man. Let our motto today and everyday be to say "No" to self and "Yes" to Jesus every time. Like young Bill Borden, may we be remembered, not for all of our accomplishments and abilities, but by our willingness to give it all for Jesus and inspire thousands, if not millions of others to do the same. No reserve, no retreat, no regrets. Amen.

Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.

Alexandre Bilodeau is the first Canadian ever to win a gold medal at an Olympics held in Canada. As a young boy, Alexandre loved to play hockey. But his older brother, Frederic, 5 years older and disabled with cerebral palsy, was not able to play. Alexandre "gave up the sport he loved for the brother he loved even more." Skiiing was more accessible for the whole family. On the his bio for Team Canada, Alex lists his brother as his best friend and his hero. In his interview after his gold medal run, he fights back tears as he tells us all that Frederic is his inspiration. He says that Frederic, given the chance, would train at every opportunity only if he could. That made the tough days easier. Jennifer Heil, the silver medallist in women's moguls, was traveling to her own medal ceremony as Alex was scheduled to ski. She sprinted up the stairs into the studio hoping to catch his run and was able to see the results as they were announced. She says she cried more happy tears for him than she did for herself after winning her own medal. Their coach, Dominick Gauthier says of Alex's run: "He got so fast at one point. I saw him just accelerate in these two or three turns and I thought, 'Oh my god, that kid's really going for gold.'" No doubt Alex had to sacrifice a lot to make himself as good as he is. Easily he could celebrate his achievement by bragging about himself. Instead, he tells us about the people who inspired him, who made him better and that they made the sacrifice worthwhile. In such an important moment for a country, Alex brings the intimacy and the importance of family to the world stage and he shines, well-deserving of the postage stamp (already made!) that will commemorate his achievement.

For those of us who were hindered from watching it during the game, I've posted Tim Tebow's much-anticipated Superbowl commercial that was aired to American viewers during the game last night. Tim Tebow is a celebrated Heisman Trophy-winning college football player who is using his position of influence to spread the good news of Christ with as many people as he can. Together, with his parents, he has used a 30-second superbowl commercial to reach out and give hope to thousands if not millions of hurt and lost souls. You'll notice the commercial itself is short but when you go to the Focus on the Family website afterwards and watch the rest of Tim's story, you'll see how the Lord provided the Tebows "wisdom from above" on how they could break through the barriers of broadcast censorship to share a message of hope.

Good afternoon my brothers and sisters. I'll let Tony Dungy speak for himself, but here's a brief bio of Tony Dungy:

Tony Dungy was the former head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. He believed that the Lord lead him to coach the Tampa Bay Bucaneers between 1996-2001 to win the Superbowl... but never won the Superbowl. He was fired as the head coach in 2001. His son Jaime took his own life in 2005. He lead his team and won the superbowl in 2006. Most importantly, he believed that his team, coaching staff and himself can win the superbowl 'the right way' which was to put football second behind the Lord and family. He retired in 2007. His testimony is powerful and is a witness to the love and greatness of Jesus Christ.

Foundations Membership Class Coming Up!

Attention all newcomers, please join us for our upcoming Foundations Membership Class on Saturday February 27, 2010 at 10:30 a.m in the main chapel. This is a membership class open to all those who are interested in becoming members at the Rock. The church board members will be explaining all of the Rock's foundational doctrines, administration, and procedures in a warm and friendly environment. This is a perfect opportunity to ask any questions you may have regarding everything from tithing to joining a ministry. Feel free to bring your children along as childcare and lunch will be provided.

Happy Feet Swing Dancing Night!

Are you one of those closet-dancers just itching for an opportunity to move those happy feet? (Like me) Or perhaps you've always wanted to learn to dance, but never had the chance?

Well now is the chance to seize the day..or night, that is. Join us for a night of dancing, fellowship, and fun at our "Happy Feet" Swing Dancing Night at the Rock! Partners are not mandatory, so singles and couples are all welcome. Don't know how to swing dance or need to brush up? No problem. Our evening will begin with a 1-hour swing dancing lesson that will teach you all you need to know to get down and boogie during the open dance time that will follow. Not only will you experience the thrill of moving to the rhythm in 1920s style, but you will also discover fascinating biblical insights in the process of learning to dance that will bless your souls.

How we can lend a hand....

As we watch the crisis in Haiti continue to unfold, we at Rock Community Church encourage you to donate whatever you can to organizations that provide spiritual aid and emergency relief to those suffering. One such organization is Samaritan's Purse, an evangelical Christian mission, headed by Franklin Graham. Samaritan's Purse provides desperately needed assistance to victims of natural disaster, war and famine in the name of Christ. Dear Friends,

As we witness the pain and suffering being experienced right now by the people of Haiti after yesterday's devastating earthquake, let us take this opportunity to take our Lord's advice from Luke 13 and repent, for we are not enjoying comfort while these others suffer so much because we are better or more righteous than them...no, it is only by God's grace. Let us take the time to pray for the hurting and lost of Haiti, that God's love and grace will pour out to them in the midst of their suffering and that many will come to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Let us also examine ourselves this day, that we are seeking Him in all that we do, and that we are doing things according to His timing and His way, not our own. -Amen.

Come Walk on Water with us at the Rock!

At the Rock Community Church, you can walk on water in more ways than one! Join us this coming Wednesday January 13 at 7:30 p.m. as we continue our study in the book of Jude. The truths revealed in this thought-provoking and deep study of God's word will make you feel like you're walking on water...

Then on Sunday morning when you pick up your bible and notebook to bring to church, don't forget to grab your ice skates too so you can "walk on water" on our newly frozen ice skating rink located beside our main chapel. Our brand new, "Walk on Water" ministry has been officially launched and as of this Sunday there will be opportunity for little ones to learn to skate, older ones to place some hockey, and anyone to come see what it feels like to "walk on water".

Dear Rock Family,

It is already a brand new year, and as we look forward to 2010, may this year be a year of stepping out in faith and trusting the Lord beyond our own understanding, abilities, and possibilities.

"And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him." (Hebrews 11:6)

May our goals, desires, and vision for this year be to please Him and not ourselves. During our blessed New Year's Eve service, Pastor Sung said that the worst thing that could happen to us is if God gives us what we want, and the greatest thing that could happen is if God gives us what He wants. What kind of a year will 2010 be for you? By faith, let us let go of the things that we want so badly for ourselves and look up to the One who can fill us with the true living water.

Wednesday night bible studies will resume next Wednesday January 13 at 7:30 p.m. and continue every other Wednesday from there on. Due to occassional schedule changes, check our church calendar on a monthly basis for confirmed bible study dates. We are currently studying the book of Jude. Though it's a small book, it's a fascinating and provocative one that you won't want to miss!

We are very excited to announce the opening of our Rock Preschool in the New Year! The first day will be on Tuesday January 5, 2010 and will run every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Our commitment and motto is to train our children in good behaviour and attitudes in a Bible-based, fun, and loving environment.

The class is open to all children 2 to 3 years of age. The cost is a one-time supply fee of $25, and a subsequent $35/day, which includes both a morning snack and hot lunch.

WOTR Women's Testimonies 2009 - Jesus, the Word of Life

"Praise the Lord! Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. For His lovingkindness is everlasting." (Psalm 106:1)

As is our annual tradition, this year the Women of the Rock have compiled a collection of testimonies of how the Lord has been working in our lives this year. The theme of this year's testimonies, along with this year's blessed Christmas event that we hosted last night, is "Jesus, the Word of Life." What a blessed reminder that He is the Word, He is the life, and we need not go further than receiving His Word into our hearts to experience the abundance of His life, love, and peace in us.

Last night at our annual Women's Christmas dinner and talent show, the Lord poured out His Spirit upon us and truly blessed us all. We are in awe at His goodness and grace. Check out the WOTR blog site at: http://www.womenoftherock.blogspot.com for more details.

2009 Rock Community Church Hallelujah Party

Praise our Lord for a wonderful celebration! The week prior to the Hallelujah Party, the forecast showed chances of showers, then probable rain. Many were praying and trusting the Lord would provide us with good weather for the children.

"The dove came to him toward evening, and behold, in her beak was a freshly picked olive leaf. So Noah knew that the water was abated from the earth." - Gen 8:11

I am reminded when the Lord stopped the pouring of water on the earth and brought a dove with an olive leaf in it's beak to Noah. Our Lord is so gracious and faithful to us as the weather broke and the rains were held in the skies. I believe His Spirit like a dove, was among us that day. From the weather; to the labor of the parents and small groups and to the blessings of the young ones we were able to bring to Christ. I believe that the love shown and memories created for our children and our community will last for eternity. Praise the Lord. Amen.

Hello All,

Just a reminder that our Hallelujah Festival is coming up this coming Saturday October 31st from 2pm to 6pm! There will be a puppet show, photo booth, snack bar, helium balloons, and all kinds of great games for all ages (football, hockey, fishing, bowling, bean bag toss, cupcake decorating, nail stamping- just to name a FEW.) This is certainly an event you and your children won't want to miss. Don't forget about the costume contest where you and your family can win GREAT PRIZES. Be sure to get dressed up along with your children to take advantage of this unique opportunity for a fun family portrait at our photo booth.

Carnival festivities will run outside from 2pm to 5pm, followed by some worship and prize time from 5pm to 6pm. This is a perfect opportunity to invite all your family and friends to come and hear the gospel message in a fun and comfortable environment. Please pray for warm, dry and weather and see you all there!

Let us take some time today to consider all those things we have considered 'natural', which are in fact supernatural , and give thanks to the One who gave them all.

The most fun you can have in the rain!!!

I don't know about you, but that was the most fun I've ever had in the rain! At first I was so disappointed when I woke up this morning that the weather was so wet and there was no sign of letting up, but the Lord showed us all that his Spirit can shine through "whether it rains or pours". Praise be to God for giving us such a fun-filled day of feeding farm animals climbing through obstacle courses, picking our own pumpkins, and of course a bumpy wagon ride...all in the rain! Thank you to all the parents for being such sports and thank you to our awesome God for making our Rock Kindergarten's first school trip such a memorable one!
